Kinda bad on The Royal Prince's First Love
This starts off as a cliche school prince plot and it's complete fluff, but it slowly morphs into a traitor/royal succession/spy plot that is way too complicated for a fluffy romance manga. It's like the author can't decide what genre they want it to be. I'm fine with either genre generally, but when a manga suddenly switches part way through its pretty jarring.
The season 1 plot is nice but it takes way too long for the main characters to become a proper item and there are a lot of infuriating near -misses along the way. I agree with some other reviews that say the politics side of it all is a bit much, and it does make it a bit long. I also didn't like how the main bad guy gets redeemed/forgiven in the last few chapters as it didn't fit with the rest of the season; I think it was just a lazy way of setting up season 2 and I didn't like that.
I started reading season 2 but I will probably drop it because the plot seems ridiculous, even when considered in the context of this manga's world. The author is trying to reset the clock on the "will they, won't they" of season 1 as well and it's just annoying; I want to see a progression of their relationship, not just a repeat of what I've read before.
The art style is very nice and is consistent throughout. Be warned that this is shounen-ai not yaoi so don't expect sm** - just some heavy petting and strong implication.
(Oh the translations on here are rubbish and some of the later chapters are just totally wrong so if you do decide to read this, try other sites for a better experience.)The

I did keep reading this and it got worse. The political spy plot became totally ridiculous and the main characters' personalities and life goals changed completely. It's like the writer wanted to do a new manga but was too scared to start again so they destroyed their original idea instead. A shame. I'm reducing my rating from 3 stars to 2.
