You see, when writing a strong female character, you can take the easy road, or the hard one. If you want to do it fast and quick, go with a power fantasy. Make her infallible, make her strong, make her invulnerable. There, done.
But let's say, you want to write a realistic character. Maybe one which is very strong, but also in a very precarious situation.
Then you have Rosalyn. A clever woman. A strong woman. Savvy merchant, ice-cold schemer, resilient fighter. But also fallible. Also weakened by hope and family neglect. Discarded and abbandoned, used, often victim of her own body and its natural mechanisms.
Then give her a proper another half. A male lead which is soft, naive, somewhat innocent and unaware of the world around him. Normally it should be a recipe for disaster, but you write him properly. You give him development, without upturning his basic character traits. You give him emotional articulation, felt sorrow and pain, but also desire.
The result is a great couple, which has to face despicable, unforgivable pieces of sh**. They won't always prevail, since they are imperfect and far from omnipotent, but they sure as hėll will try, and you will come to genuinely root for them. Like them, for how realistic they are.
Great writing, exceptional handling of its themes (mostly family, prejudice and noble-bourgeoisie class warfare) near perfect and emotional depiction of very delicate situations. Even visceral. The character art is truly great, too, even if the environments are lacking. I'm giving it a GAI (Grand Acolade of Ivern) for its couple, and the attention to detail in their personalities. Ah, but don't read the comments: full of spoilers, they will ruin it for ya.
