Pretty good on The Tyrant’S Guardian Is An Evil Witch
Mmmmmh.
It has got a lot of great ideas. A grievous wound, a mental interloper, future sight, fate, curses and blessings. A plan to thwart destiny itself.
These are all set ups that could be well developed in amazing narrative arcs. Instead, they fizzle out quickly, after starting out great. The manga is a panicky run in search for ways of retaining your attention, and I think it could succeed, if only it committed to one.
It's not like it fails completely, anyway. Edmund's story is a delicate, precious example of a tasteful and felt tale of sincere friendship. But the romance... Chaotic would be an euphemism.
Listen, I'm not blind. The art, even in the following drop in quality, remains very appealing. The writing form itself is perfectly fine. I like it, overall, I really do. But I don't like the romance, and the plot. I don't like the codependent aspect of it. I don't like the "Groom your own groom" trope. She was his mother. She was and you know it. It's not about principle, it's about the health of the relationship itself. And honestly, it develops much too quickly, without thought. Even if it could've worked, and I doubt it strongly, it most certainly won't work like this.
As I said, I like Clete. I like Tita. I like Ophelia a lot, I love Edmund. The characterization is not shabby at all. But the character interactions are lacking in coherency.
8+ on the Ivern Scale™️. It lacks focus, maybe a bit of sense, but definitely not effort.
